Judge Frederick J. Lauten Re-elected
Chief Judge of the Ninth Judicial Circuit

Orlando, FL   –   This afternoon, without opposition, the Honorable Frederick J. Lauten was re-elected Chief Judge of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court by his fellow judges. His first term as Chief Judge began in September 2014. This two-year term will end June 30, 2019.

A native of the Chicago area, Judge Lauten received his BA in History in 1975 and his MBA in 1976, both from Rollins College. He received his Juris Doctor from Villanova University in 1979. Judge Lauten worked as an assistant state attorney in the Ninth Judicial Circuit for over ten years before being appointed to the Orange County bench in 1993. Since being appointed to the circuit bench in 1999, Judge Lauten has served as an Administrative Judge for both the circuit criminal and circuit civil divisions.

Under Judge Lauten’s tenure as Chief Judge, the circuit has increased community outreach efforts through the use of social media and audio podcasts. He has endorsed the expansion of problem solving courts, such as Early Childhood Court and Veterans Court, which help address the underlying issues that cause persons to come before the Court.

Judge Lauten has also been a staunch advocate for judicial education. He served as Dean of the Florida Judicial College from 2006 to 2012 and currently serves as Chair of the Education Committee of the Conference of Circuit Court Judges.

“I am humbled and honored to have been selected by my colleagues to serve another term as their Chief Judge. I have enormous respect for the dedication and integrity of my fellow judges, and I deeply admire the hard work every member of the Ninth Judicial Circuit’s workforce provides to the citizens of Orange and Osceola counties,” said Judge Lauten.

The Ninth Circuit serves Orange and Osceola counties and is the third largest circuit in Florida.
