Circuit Judge Patricia Doherty was recognized as the 2018 Jurist of the Year by the Central Florida Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) at their annual Judicial Luncheon on November 7. The Jurist of the Year is awarded to judges who actively strive to preserve and improve the trial jury system, foster working relationships with the trial bar, and are dedicated to the rule of law.

Founded in 1958, ABOTA was created to “foster improvement in the ethical and technical standards of practice in the field of advocacy to the end that individual litigants may receive more effective representation, and that the general public may benefit from a more efficient administration of justice, consistent with time-tested and traditional principles of litigation.”

Judge Doherty was first elected to the bench in 2010. She serves as the Administrative Judge for the Orange County Domestic Division.
