Circuit Judge Alice Blackwell – a long time champion of domestic violence prevention and protections – was recognized as the 2018 Champion of Justice by Harbor House at their annual Purple Door Luncheon on October 17. The Champions of Courage Award Ceremony recognizes leaders in the Central Florida community working towards ending violence in the community, and creating lasting, positive change in the lives of domestic violence survivors. The other Champion Awards recipients were: Bank of America - Champion of Community; Heather Wilkie, executive director of the Zebra Coalition - Champion of Equality; and Beverly Paulk, volunteer with Harbor House since mid-1980 – Legacy Leader Award. Judge Blackwell was first elected to the bench in 1991. She serves the Circuit as an Associate Administrative Judge and is currently assigned to the domestic division. Judge Blackwell co-chairs the Orange County Domestic Violence Committee and holds the office of Trustee for the George C. Young American Inn of Court. In addition to the Champion of Justice award, she received the 2018 Judicial Excellence Award from the Florida Supreme Court and the 2018 American Bar Association’s Women Business and Commercial Advocate Award.
