Substitute Judicial Assistant (Administrative Assistant I)

Position description

The Administrative Assistant I position will provide legal administrative support substituting for judicial assistants to Circuit and County Judges of the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orange County. The essential function of the position within the organization is to provide responsible administrative, secretarial and clerical support to a judge’s office in the absence of the judicial assistant. The position works independently under general supervision according to certain established procedures. This position composes, edits and distributes correspondence, court orders, pleadings, memoranda, reports, e-mails, and other documents while observing strict confidentiality; screens telephone calls and visitors to the judge’s office, provides information, resolves issues, directs caller/visitor to proper personnel or agency, or takes messages; schedules trials, maintains trial dockets, continuances and trial orders as needed; enters data into an automated calendaring system. Must excel at working independently and have excellent organizational skills. Must have excellent computer skills, specifically with the use of Microsoft Office. Must have the ability to quickly acquire proficiency with a variety of computer programs, including court calendaring program, clerk case management system and e-filing system. Must have the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing and have effective use of business English, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Must have the capability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with others, including judges, coworkers, government officials, law enforcement, the Clerk’s office and the public. The ideal candidate for this position must display a high level of professionalism at all times and maintain confidentiality of information in the performance of all duties. A working knowledge of the trial courts (including civil, criminal, domestic, probate and juvenile) and the applicable rules and procedures helpful.

A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in administrative work is required. Administrative work experience may substitute for the college training on a year for year basis. Submit State of Florida application, cover letter, and verification of education. Orange County funded position with benefits.
