The Ninth Judicial Circuit Court seeks a General Counsel. The General Counsel serves as in-house counsel for the Circuit, reporting directly to the Chief Judge, and is a member of the Circuit’s executive management team. The position is chief legal advisor to the Chief Judge, Judges, the Court Administrator, and all court departments in the implementation of policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with laws and rules. Legal issues are varied, unique, and range from such matters as public records, employment law, ethics, contracts, and ADA issues (including under Title II).
The position also serves as the administrative head of the Legal Services Division, which includes supervision of the magistrates, child support hearing officers, staff attorneys, civil traffic hearing officers, and support staff. This is demanding, professional, and highly responsible work.
Requirements: Member in good standing in The Florida Bar. Seven years of related work experience including three years of supervisory experience. Extensive working knowledge of Florida Courts Systems operations and knowledge of employment law and court public records law are advantages but not prerequisites. Must be proficient in Word and Westlaw/Lexis and be able to personally prepare own documents.
