Unified Family Court
The Unified Family Court (UFC) utilizes a fully integrated comprehensive approach in handling all cases involving children, families and victims of domestic violence while simultaneously resolving family disputes in a fair, timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.
Since January 2006, the UFC has two judges assigned to handle all family and juvenile cases in a mirror image procedure and on an alternating week basis. The goal is to have all companion cases linked together and assigned to one judge in order for the presiding judge to have a complete overview of all cases pertaining to an entire family.
The UFC also has case managers to monitor court orders and the parties’ compliance. Additionally, case managers research approximately 3,727 cases per year and reassign/notify the presiding judge of any and all open cases involving the parties. The case managers also provide litigants with information of community resources available to them.
