Judicial Town Hall
Have you ever wanted to ask a question of a District Court of Appeal Judge, a Ninth Judicial Circuit Judge or Ninth Judicial Circuit County Judge? The Ninth Judicial Circuit Court conducts multiple Judicial Town Halls using a variety of formats. Why a Town Hall? The Judges want to hear from the public rather than report to it. Ultimately, the Court wants to improve public trust and confidence in the court system.
Questions cover a wide spectrum of matters from death penalty issues to complex civil litigation. The Court has established the Judicial Town Hall as a permanent channel for community input into the Courts. A panel of distinguished Judges respond to questions from the public at the traditional Town Hall meeting. Questions are submitted in person, via the Internet, and via fax. Internet and fax questions are submitted prior to and during the Town Hall meeting. The Judicial Town Hall meeting explores how citizens believe the court system, in general, and the Court, in particular, are performing.
Additionally, the Judges of the Ninth Judicial Circuit hold Community Town Halls. In this forum, the Judges venture into the local community to meet with the leaders of the African American and Hispanic communities. The forum provides the Judges with the chance to hear what a targeted audience feels about the role of the Judiciary and a chance for the Judges to give the Court’s perspective.
The first Judicial Town Hall was broadcast "live" via the Court's web site, www.ninthcircuit.org and is shown weekly on Orange TV (Government Access) Channel 9 Time Warner Cable. Please check local cable listings for exact times and dates.
